Organ
As soon as the builder's dust had settled, St Joseph's church took possession of a brand new digital Allen "Renaissance" organ. It has two speakers situated on diagonal comers of the church and a speaker in the console, thus giving ample sound for the biggest occasion. It is a two manual organ with a large choice of stops (specification).
The musicians in the congregation have decided that we need to start a rota of people, possibly pianists, who are willing to learn to play the organ. Speaking for myself, I really enjoy the challenge and I am finding that my life has taken on a whole new meaning. I hope that my efforts are starting to take effect and that the congregation are able to detect an improvement.
Even though the organists are beginners, this does not mean that the parish is not able to provide music for all occasions. I have played the organ at weddings which have been enhanced by singing from the choir. These have been much appreciated by all concerned and, although I have been more nervous than the bride at times, my repertoire is gradually expanding and, hopefully, I will soon be able to play most of the pieces that are required.
If there is anybody out there who would like to be added to our rota of organists, please would you let the Parish Office know. It does not matter what standard you are, as anybody is capable of improvement with a bit of hard work and the congregation is very patient.
