Justice and Peace Group
Our
aims are to increase the parishioner awareness of the Church's
social teaching, and to keep up to date with Justice and Peace
issues and social concerns within the parish, diocese, nationally
and globally.
Activities we undertake or plan together and with other churches include these - if anyone has any ideas we will try and support it:
- Co-ordinated with Churches Together for Jubilee 2000 in the Park
- Organised collections for Leatherhead Night Shelter and the Passage
- Attending diocesan activities such as for environmental concerns
- Planning future justice and peace activities relevant to our environment and the world in which we live
- Fair Trade activities such as the recent coffee morning and trade weekend
- More justice and peace talks
- One world week in October
- We would like to do more support disadvantaged people nationally and globally, such as torture and abuse victims, people in prison
Many of us are concerned about the threats to the world in which we live. The J&P group organise activities that allow us to do something about the injustice and discourse in our world. If you are interested in participating in these activities then please contact the Parish Group Coordinator, the Parish Office or any member of your Parish Pastoral Council.
Racial Justice Charter
extract from Newsletter October 2004
The diocese of Arundel and Brighton has launched a Racial Justice Charter Please do read it.
Throughout the diocese, we are being encouraged to carry out a simple 'mapping' exercise to display the breadth of cultural and ethnic origins of our current Mass-going community. This has been planned to take place at Masses on the 23rd and 24th October 2004. We believe this will help show in a simple, visual way, the richness of diversity in our parish community. We hope you will enjoy taking part! Justice and Peace Group
