SIG - a Structure for Parish Participation
How SIG Works
- each group has co-ordinators.
- each SIG meets at least quarterly to evaluate, draw up progress
report, plan, submit proposals etc.
- reports are submitted to Parish Priest or Team.
- response is given by Parish Priest or Team.
- Overall co-ordinator of SIG meets with a Parish Co-Mission consisting
of all the SIG co-ordinators on a regular basis (eg twice yearly
and/or just prior to Parish in Council meetings. (SIG can also
report to Parish-in-Council, SIG co-ordinator must be sure to involve
others from group for this)
- all SIG must feel that they both contribute to and receive from the Parish.

Adult Education and Formation
- to promote opportunities for adults to be informed, trained and developed in matters relating to Church membership, theology, scripture and catechetics
- to promote the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
- liaison with other groups in Deanery and Diocese
- to promote faith sharing and prayer in small groups of all kinds
Catechesis for the Young
- to ensure training and resources for parish catechists in this important ministry
- liaison with Deanery and Diocese
Communications
- to consider effective means of communication within the parish, between Schools, Hospitals and other organisations
- to consider practical suggestions for improvements

- liaison with A & B News
Community Care
- to promote spiritual and pastoral welfare of the sick, the housebound, those in residential care, the elderly, the divorced, the separated, the single
- to organise activities for senior parishioners
- help the bereaved, support them
Community Life
- to bring alive a sense of community and belonging among all
- members of the parish through social activities
- to identify groups who are sometimes overlooked
- to organise activities that foster a sense of community
Ecumenism
- to promote and develop closer ecumenical relations
- to organise the ecumenical house groups
- to encourage more parishioner involvement
Feasibility
- to sustain investigation, discussions, negotiations with local council, agents of Congregation, Diocese, architects about moving entire church site to Dorking Road (or elsewhere)
- to involve parishioners wherever possible and ensure they are kept au fait with developments
Finance
- to oversee and be guardians of parish finances
- to advise of wise investments
- to give yearly report to parishioners
Fund Raising
- to raise funds for the parish
- to enlist expertise when appropriate
Hospital Chaplaincies
- to offer a service of spiritual ministry and compassion to the residents, relatives and staff of our hospitals and group homes.
- to continue to promote the intrinsic worth and care of each individual resident during the reorganisation periods
- to continue to develop friendly co-operation with other Christian ministers who work in this field
Justice and Peace
- increase parishioner awareness of the Church's Social Teaching
- enlist their involvement
- keep them au courant with J & P issues and social concerns both nationally and globally
Liturgy
To support the Parish Priest in the development of Liturgy in the parish by:- identifying areas of strength and weakness
- setting time-bonded targets for development
- identifying individuals and groups who could be delegated to
- meet the targets
- monitor the developments
Marriage and Family Life
- to foster, support and sustain marriage and family life
- to assert and uphold the enduring sacramental ideal of marriage
- to promote family values and family life
- the preparation of young couples for the sacrament of marriage
Music
- to work in partnership with the Parish Liturgy Group in order
- to further the development of music in the parish
- to adopt a unified approach to music eg Mass parts
- to oversee choice of music and its preparation
Road Stewards
- Help to strengthen and develop the parish community
- Facilitate good communications and services in the parish
- welcome new parishioners
- deliver occasional parish materials
- be responsive to need
- give assistance and advice
- act as a link in case of need
Schools Liaison
- continue to encourage mutual support between our Catholic Schools and our Parish
- foster good links with other Christian schools in Epsom
Youth
- to promote personal development, expand horizons
- to involve young people in the life and activity of the Church
- to explore ways of enabling youngsters in the parish to get together
- liaison with Diocesan Agencies
