Gap Years

Vincentian Volunteers

Vincentian Volunteers are young people 18-30 who give a year,
September to July, to live in small Christian Communities of three or
four. They aim to serve others in the spirit of St Vincent de Paul who
found Christ in the poor. They receive pocket money and food money
which they put in common like a family. There are six training weekends
for a chance to relax and reflect on what they are learning through
community, service and prayer. For further information see
www.vincentianvolunteers.org or contact Sister Pauline Gaughan, 39
Marlsford Street, Liverpool L6 6AX or phone 0151 261 0225.

GRANTS FOR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY

Are there any young Catholics, aged 16-25, who are planning to involve themselves in projects at home or abroad to benefit the community? If so, they can apply for a grant from the Catenian Association Bursary Fund. This opportunity will be of particular interest to those going on a gap year prior to University. As an example of previous beneficiaries, in summer 2004 a group of Sixth Formers from Wimbledon College travelled to Southern India to help improve the living conditions of that particularly deprived caste, the Dalits, better known as 'The Untouchables'. For further information contact Ian Gordon via the Parish Office.
