Apostleship of the Sea

The Apostleship of the Sea provides pastoral care in ports throughout the world for seafarers. Britain is an island nation, dependent on seabourne trade for 90% of its goods, carried with the labour of seafarers. Of the world's 1.5 million international seafarers, most (70%), come from Catholic developing countries. The Apostleship of the Sea has a large responsibility to look after these men and women when they visit our port parishes and seafarer centres, trying to keep their faith alive when detached for long periods from their own parish and families. A collection is made each year on Sea Sunday. (Web site)

CAFOD

Catholic Agency for Overseas Development. There are several initiatives in the Parish for collecting funds to support CAFOD including hunger lunches during Lent and CAFOD fast days. (Web site)

CAFOD Lent Prayer
We dare to imagine a world
Where hunger has no chance
To show its face
We dare to dream of a world
Where war and terror are afraid
To leave their mark
We dare to share
In the creation of a world
Where your people break free

Dare we open our minds to difference?
Dare we open our own lives to change?

Your kingdom come, O Lord
You will be done
Amen

Theresa's sister, Sr Ann Kelly sends thanks for your generosity "I can assure you that this is all being put to good use to help the very needy people among whom we work. May God bless and reward you all." Further donations can be handed into the Parish Office, cheques payable to FMFD and Gift Aided where possible.

The Hostel offers a bed, food, care and concern for people who have a need. Some who drop in are suffering from drug or alcohol abuse, depression and mental ill health. Others just need a roof over their heads for the night. There is also a follow-up service. Night shelter information
