Opening Prayer David Walsh 2. Matters Arising from Last Meeting Fr Micael’s farwell went very well, on 4th December, with over two hundred people attending a reception in the Canon Christall Hall. Carlos de Souza reports, by e-mail, that the fire alarm testing is in hand with the Premises Parish Group. Arrangements for a Risk Analysis Inspection (Ѓ350 - Ѓ400) have been suggested to Fr Bill, Michael Tripp will now take this proposal to the Finance Group for final approval for it to go ahead. John Turner and Michael Tripp will liaise with regard to the best way of raising money from the Parish for new hymn books. Other Business Parking at the 6.00 pm Sunday Mass is becoming more of a problem, the barrier at the end of the Car Park will therefore be lifted at this Mass on a trial basis. “Planning Parishes for 2010” The above proposal from the Diocese was discussed at length. As a result the statement below was sent to the Diocese. The Bishop will be leading a meeting for representatives from all parishes in the Diocese on 14th January 2006 in Crawley. It is intended that there will be two representatives from St Joseph’s at this meeting, this will then be followed by a wider discussion in our Parish. Following the meeting of St. Joseph’s (Epsom) Parish Pastoral Council on Monday 5th December 2005, I have listed below the main points to come from the meeting. We hope that these will be of use in the wider discussion across the Diocese. David Walsh (Chair of Parish Pastoral Council) Whilst the Parish Pastoral Council have discussed the issues, we would have valued the opportunity to have involved more people from the Parish. We now hope to do this after the 14th Jan. meeting in Crawley. We are broadly in agreement with the proposals as they affect Epsom, but would be comfortable if St. Joseph’s was clustered with a larger group of Parishes (for example Ewell, Banstead, Ashtead and Tadworth). As the largest Parish in the Deanery, with a good new flexible building, we are ready to do our part on helping the whole Deanery. We note that the proposal has three priests suggested for the Epsom / Ewell cluster, but at the present time there are only two priests for these two Parishes It must be noted that a loss of masses for a Parish will almost certainly lead to a drop in numbers attending over a weekend, this will have a knock on effect both financially and in terms of building community. At St Joseph’s, if we go from four masses to three, this would mean “losing” a mass which regularly attracts between 100 and 150 people. As a Parish we have just moved our Church closer to our School, which has had an extremely positive influence on Parish life. we are nervous of any move that dilutes the benefits we have gained. An alternative to “losing” a mass might be for the laity to run a Eucharistic Service to fulfil the Sunday obligation. In what circumstances would this arrangement be acceptable to fulfil the Sunday obligation ? The Eucharistic Service could “rotate” across the four masses, in this way both revenue and community would be, to a certain extent, safeguarded. This arrangement would mean that parishioners would have three masses and one Eucharistic Service over a four week cycle, for a particular time over a weekend. With a significant lack of priests in the future, the Church in the UK may have to think radically like this if it is going to continue to serve its people. What good practice is there elsewhere in the UK, outside A and B ? As well as mass times there are a host of other issues which have to be considered if Parishes are going to be combined, such as pastoral care, care of the sick, links with schools and hospitals, sacramental programmes, financial arrangements etc. -BC7F-F48DB8250265}A Nq#mailto:david@34edr,freeserve.co.uk%http://www.st-josephs-epsom.org.uk)/Normala David Walsh4viMicrosoft Word 8.0t@ж~@в)сEЦ@іx$хFЦъъ My DocumentsI h@A<@ts5 h@A<@5[\]Њіїcdeƒ„ЉЊ/0[\зичш‰ŠЊЋќќњњњіњ№іњњњњьшшшшшьушшшуќ & F„а„h„ „`њ„ $5[\]Њіїcdeƒ„ЉЊ/0[\зичш‰ŠЊЋ" # 6 7 & ' 3 V W Б * + ~ ‚ у "#ƒ„пGHЈьэ01)*+,-./ќіѓ№ъфслеЯ @Ћ" # 6 7 & ' 3 V W Б * + ~ ‚ у "#ƒ„пGHЈћљћљљљљљљєћ№ыћћы№ћыћљцћћыћ & F & F„а & F„аьэ01)*+,-./ћћіћіћєє№№№ћ„а & F„а ўџеЭеœ.“—+,љЎDеЭеœ.“—+,љЎx4 hp”œЄЌ ДМФЬ д фDell Computer Corporationeg Г 5Minutes of the Thirty Second Parish Pastoral Council TitleМ(RZВ _PID_GUID _PID_HLINKSфAN{F9D63C66-8C64-4451 [$@ёџ$NormalmH <A@ђџЁ<Default Paragraph Font/ џџџџ/ Ћ/ / ЬЭно.1џџ David Walsh2C:\windows\TEMP\AutoRecovery save of Document2.asd David WalshGC:\PHTOOLS\My Documents\Minutes of the 32nd Parish Pastoral Council.doc David WalshSC:\PHTOOLS\My Documents\PPC Minutes of the 33rd Jan '06 Parish Pastoral Council.docњ;R7R}џ‡9н?R7R}џX. ЄYњ;‡9н?џџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџ@€œ—j/P@GTimes New Roman5€Symbol3& Arial"0ˆаh›cЃ›cЃWX !ЅРДД€0dcџџ4Minutes of the Thirty Second Parish Pastoral Council David Walsh David WalshEGhv‡Јвдич‰ЊЋ" # ‚ „ 6 ˆ Š *+./6 ""4'6'v'x'Z2\2К2М2О2і2ј2–3š3Ќ8Ў8 9 99D9F9P9Є9§љ§ѕ§ѕ§љ§ѕ§ѕѓ§§љ§ёё§§§§љ§ѕычукуЮкЪкуФукуИкЪку§jљ6CJU 6CJH*0J6j6CJUj6CJU6CJ56 56CJH*55CJCJH*CJ3ьэ01)*+,-./Ж"И"ў#$$&&&4'6'v'x'ю*№*ъ,ь,,0ћћіћіћєє№№№ћћћћћєєєєєєэээээ$„а & F„аА‚. There was a thorough Risk Assessment carried out before Christmas, leading to a very comprehensive report, which has been circulated to the Premises Parish Group. Hymn books have been ordered, plans are in hand to approach the Parish for contributions.NoneFollowing the last PPC Meeting the Chair and Vice Chair attended a Diocesan meeting in Crawley. Both felt communication was needed from the PPC and/or Fr Bill updating the Parish. After lengthy discussion it was agreed that the article below might be a suitable communication. This would be submitted to Fr. Bill. Planning Parishes for 2010 In the February edition of the A and B News there will be details from a document entitled Planning Parishes for 2010 , produced by the Diocese, which takes an overview of the future provision of priests across the Diocese. It also outlines possible future arrangements between Parishes as the number of available priests reduces. It is above all a discusssion document, which encourages each Deanery to make its own plans for the future. As you will see the suggestion for our Deanery is that we work more closely with our neighbouring Parish of St. Clements in Ewell. It is a likely projection that we will have two priests to cover the two Parishes (indeed that is our present position). There are of course implications for both Parishes, the most obvious being that there will be a reduction in the number of weekend Masses, in our case from four to three, with the two Parishes co-ordinating their Mass times (NB since Fr Micael s departure we have relied on guest priests for our fourth Sunday mass) There are also wider implications in terms of the work load for our priests, and the Parish Team. With all of this in mind your Parish Pastoral Council discussed the document in December and sent an initial response to the Diocese - a copy of this is included in the minutes of the December Meeting, which are available on the Board in the Narthex, and on the Parish website ( HYPERLINK http://www.st-josephs-epsom.org.uk) www.st-josephs-epsom.org.uk). The Chair and Vice chair attended a very well attended Diocesan Meeting on 14th January, led by Bishop Kieran, which outlined the thinking behind the Paper. This has been followed up with an invitation to Father Graham (Parish Priest) and representatives from St. Clements, to attend the February meeting of our Parish Pastoral Council, so that we can begin an initial discussion to identify areas in which we can support each other. At the present time no decisions have been made about changing Mass times. We are very keen to receive feedback and would value any comments relating to issues arising from the Paper.
