Ambo (Lectern)
This
is sited near the entrance to the church, immediately in front
of the doors. In the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word is clearly
separated from the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The
order in which the ambo, font and altar are arranged is significant;
it is to remind us that we hear the word of God, then become
a member of His family and finally partake of the Eucharistic
feast at the altar.

The lovely wooden floor has three circles around the ambo, font and altar, emphasising these features. The use of circles dates back to the earliest times in the Church. Each circle speaks about a sacred space. When we enter a church we come into a sacred place, a holy place. In our new church we want to say something significant about the Word of God read from Sacred Scriptures from the ambo. After listening to the Word we are brought into the Church through the waters of Baptism; at the Lord's table we are nourished and fed with the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is the pinnacle of our Christian faith. The three circles also remind us of the three persons in one God.
