Entrance
The glass doors open on to a spacious vestibule or atrium where people can be welcomed and can socialise as they leave or enter the place of worship.
Above
the door into the church is a figure of the crucified Christ.
It was brought back to St Joseph's by people who went on the
pilgrimage to Lourdes after Easter 2001. Apart from the Stations
of the Cross it is the only image of the crucified Christ in
the new church. The large cross above the church entrance and
the cross on the screen behind the altar are both empty. Together
they remind us that because of Christ's crucifixion we now live
in post-resurrection times. This picture shows the crucified
Christ above the doors to the church, with the cross on the
altar screen visible immediately below. The screen is back-lit
by the sun.
A
relict from the old church: the water stoops were salvaged
from the old church, used in the church hall during the interim
and now form part of the new church.
